On June 21, 2025, something extraordinary took place in Brooklyn, NY! Larga Vista Dance held a Crazy Socks House Party, a vibrant gathering celebrating community, art, music, and movement, with a focus on empowering women and enhancing mental health. It was an evening brimming with rhythm, joy, and inspiration—after all, who doesn't enjoy dancing in crazy socks?
The Vision Behind the Party
At Larga Vista Dance, our mission goes beyond movement; we create opportunities that empower women through art and health. In today's fast-paced world, mental health awareness is more important than ever. According to the American Psychiatric Association, 1 in 5 women in the United States has a mental health problem such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or an eating disorder. Although women and men have similar rates of mental health problems, the types of mental conditions may differ. Per the American Psychiatric Association, research suggests healthy lifestyle behaviors and habits promote mental health and wellness and can be used to both prevent and treat mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar spectrum disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, and psychotic disorders. These lifestyle behaviors are grouped into six general categories: Physical activity, Diet and Nutrition, Mind-body and mindfulness practices, Restorative sleep, Social connections, and Avoiding harmful substances. So Larga Vista Dance created an opportunity for social connections, art, music, and movement to improve mental well-being and help build supportive communities.
The Crazy Socks House Party was not just a fundraising event; it was a celebration of life, vitality, and connection. Participants dove into an evening designed to raise awareness and funds for our dance company, whose focus is empowering women through art and healthcare education, all while enjoying creative and positive interactions with others.
Community Collaborations
One of the most inspiring aspects of our event is the amazing support from local businesses and people. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to those making the Crazy Socks House Party possible.
We give special recognition to Martin Striking Academy for providing us with their fantastic space and continuous support. This venue not only offered an amazing atmosphere for the event but also emphasized the spirit of collaboration within Brooklyn.
A special thanks goes to Mrs. Maria Duran for her incredible decorating skills, transforming our venue into a vibrant artistic haven. Our local elementary school's Parent Association, which co-founder Adelita Hinojosa-Martin is a part of, contributed festive decorations, adding to the lively ambiance.
A big shoutout to Eddie Martin, known as DJ EGO, whose music and vibrant energy kept our spirits high. Thank you to our talented performers Flow and Mantis from 360 Flow who dazzled us with their captivating performance, giving us an unforgettable experience. Thank you to our co-founder, Ali McClellan, for leading a gentle Mindful Movement, promoting relaxation, community connection, and body awareness—perfect for uplifting mental well-being! Thank you to Na Rae for showcasing your amazing artwork. A huge thank you to co-founder Adelita Hinojosa-Martin for organizing this event down to the small details of encouraging notes, which were all along the walls.
Our evening was enriched by our wellness raffle items, including: a relaxing massage service offered by one of our talented dancers Roxanne Young, stunning beauty products donated by Allie Hung-Plowden, a group mindful movement session allowing connection not only with our bodies but with each other offered by co-founder Ali McClellan, a group calisthenic workout offered by co-founder Adelita Hinojosa-Martin, and an opportunity for a guest(s) to join Larga Vista Dance at one of our upcoming rehearsals.

Remember, as a community, we are stronger! Thank you for unleashing your groove and embracing the power of dance while supporting our company, Larga Vista Dance. 💗
You ladies are doing AWESOME work!! I wish I could attend the August event as pelvic floor exercises are critical for every woman but especially so for the aging female. Keep up this wonderful work!! 🤩
