This piece was created by Adelita Hinojosa-Martin, artistic director of Larga Vista Dance and oncology-certified registered nurse. The words at the beginning of the piece are by Miho Ryu, in response to Adelita asking if she'd be willing to share some thoughts that go through her mind as she is going through the challenging process of chemotherapy for her breast cancer recurrence. "What is a concern that comes up in your mind, and a calming thought that helps you refocus?" Miho's response: "There have been many moments when the treatment felt so painful, and being unable to dance felt so devastating, that I found myself wondering what reason I had to keep going. But whenever I reach that lowest point, what rises from the deepest part of me is always the same thought: 'I want to dance.' Not next year. Not when I’m healed. I want to dance now. Because this present moment, this connection to life right now, is what time and life are made of. To honor that desire, I push beyond the fatigue and discomfort. Even if it’s only for one minute or five minutes, I try to stand up and dance. I encourage myself, gather my strength, and keep moving. Again and again, my body and spirit may fall, but in the end, I keep finding the strength to continue because I still want to dance. To live fully. To dance fully. That desire keeps bringing me back to life🫶" This piece was inspired by Miho's words, from a nurse's perspective. This piece was created for Miho Ryu, as part of a fundraiser to help her as she undergoes chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, navigating perimenopause or menopause, living with endometriosis or PMOS — or just knowing something is off and not having the language for it yet — this experience was built for you. “Reclaim Her: The Women’s Healing Experience” is a space where women’s health gets the depth, honesty, and respect it deserves. On June 6th, we brought together a clinical nutritionist, a mental & sexual health therapist, fitness professionals, and a registered nurse for real conversations around the things that affect us most — and that we’re most often left to figure out alone. Together we listened, learned, and closed with a live dance performance by Larga Vista Dance — because coming home to your body isn’t just something you think your way into. This video captures our free Community Perimenopause Workshop, held on April 30, 2026 in Brooklyn, NY at the BrooklynArtery. Our dance company presented a structured improvisational dance piece called "A Thousand Quiet Unravelings," by artistic director Adelita Hinojosa-Martin, with dancer Roxanne Young. "A Thousand Quiet Unravelings" is a piece reflecting women going through Perimenopause - a time for deep reflection, seeing oneself like never before, and supporting other women who are experiencing this 'zone of chaos.' The poem (seen at the end of this video) was read prior to the dance piece. We held a free movie-watch of "The M Factor 2: Before the Pause, Perimenopause." We had a 'question and answer' session about perimenopause with menopause coach, Grace, of Elektra Health. The evening ended with a raffle. Money from the raffle goes towards the Larga Vista Dance company for future community workshops and towards the company's 2026 Annual Dance Season, scheduled for October 23rd and 25, 2026, at Arts On Site in Manhattan (NYC, NY). Even with the books open and the facts in hand, It kicks at the door of my daily life, uninvited. It is not one single thing, But a thousand quiet unravelings. Choreographed by Ali McClellan and Adelita Hinojosa-Martin, this piece delves into the connection between dance and healthcare. As a dance movement therapist and a registered nurse, we recognize the vulnerability our patients face and the extent of emotions they navigate, from denial to grief and acceptance. Through this work, we cultivate an environment that honors their experiences, offering physical, emotional, and spiritual support. We celebrate the essence of human connection and resilience. Larga Vista Dance is a Brooklyn-based dance company, empowering women through art and health. We held a fundraiser at The Brooklyn Artery, in Ditmas Park, to help raise money for our 2025 Season. This was a free admission evening of art & women's healthcare education. The evening included a short performance of "The Zone of Chaos," by Larga Vista Dance Company, with guest artist Miho Ryo, a Watch Party of "The M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause," followed by a short Q&A with a menopause coach and a raffle. Women walked away with new education on how their bodies work and how to better support themselves during this transition. The performance was a structured improvisation, inspired by the words of women's real perimenopausal experience. Guest artist Alexis Borth read the words of the women. (Pardon the video angle.) Speaking portion May 17th Larga Vista Dance Presentation: How has perimenopause impacted my life? How HASN’T perimenopause impacted my life?! Even as a hyper-educated person on the subject, it kicks my ass on a daily. It isn’t one “thing” per se…I have so many symptoms. Brain fog, relentless self judgement, lack of control or agency over my moods, my output, and my energy – at work and at home. I just can’t seem to push through or “will myself” like I used to. For me, it’s the physical symptoms: the joint pain, the sudden injuries that seem to come out of nowhere, the irregular periods, breast changes and weight gain. Not knowing when it will change makes it feel like a rollercoaster. It has taught me that there are still things we cannot control, no matter how much we try. There is still a mystery to our bodies, our cycles and our rhythms. On the positive, it has forced me to give myself grace and hold my boundaries more steady than ever. I used to be a huge people pleaser, going above and beyond in order not to disappoint others - even if it exhausted me. Now, I can say “No” and put guardrails around what I can and can’t do. Most women I speak to say the same thing…the “I DON’T GIVE A FUCK” switch gets turned on….and it’s incredibly FREEING. "Notes from Daughters" is a touching project created by Leah Elimeliah, originally presented in April 2024 at an intimate, charming art gallery on the Upper West Side of NYC, NY. The event honored a variety of artists, each of whom expressed how their fathers had influenced their development into the women they are today. Larga Vista Dance showcased an extraordinary performance, choreographed & directed by Adelita Hinojosa-Martin and Ali McClellan; coached by Arleen Sugano. The captivating guitar melodies from Gipsy Kings resonated a deep appreciation that a woman has for her Dad. This show was presented in June 2025 at STUDIO TO STAGE, presented by Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company.
